LI: to identify the ways in which we predict volcanic eruptions
to identify the potential impact of a supervolcanic eruption
Over the next two double lessons you will be watching ‘Supervolcano.’ Your task is to watch the video
and take notes under the following headings. In the first double lesson you should be able to answer
sections 1, 2 and 3 this lesson. Do not lose this sheet as you will need it for next lesson also. Be as
detailed as possible with your answers.
1. Monitoring:
How do scientists monitor the volcano at Yellowstone for change e.g equipment, technology, jobs etc

What indications is the volcano giving that it may erupt?
3. Preparation
What are the authorities (can you name them?) doing in the lead up to the eruption to ensure the safety
of the people?

Describe the hazards that occur as the volcano erupts e.g ash clouds, pyroclastic flows

Describe the impacts that the volcanic eruption has in both the short term and long term
