Siemens Graduate Program – A unique
opportunity
November 2011
Dear NIT Students and Alumni,
We would like to share some of our experience about joining the Siemens AG after graduating
from TUHH/NIT with you. We all joined Siemens through the Siemens Graduate Program which
gives us the unique possibility to start our career within Siemens by rotating trough 3 individual 8
months assignments in different departments, functions and countries. As we all know how hard it
is to find the right start position for your professional career we would like to give you some further
details on our individual program paths and how to apply for it. We also included our contact
details and would be glad to answer any questions you might have about the Siemens Graduate
Program or joining Siemens.
We are looking forward to welcome more NIT fellows within Siemens!
Best regards
Wen [Class 09],
Alper [Class 09] and
Mathias [Class 10]

Mustafa Alper Alkan
Mustafa.alkan@siemens.com
Mathias Oppelt
Oppelt.mathias@siemens.com
Erlangen, Germany
The internal process at Siemens remote services is required to be developed in order to adapt to
the new technology. As a project coordinator, I was an interface between my department and the
R&D group. I have not only learned the classic process and the organizational relations in my
department, but also kept up-to-date with the new technology, which represents the future of our
organization.
Second assignment – Project manager to improve the connectivity performance for
Siemens Remote Services in Asia Pacific region, Singapore.
At present, I am leading a project for Siemens Remote Services in Asia Pacific region, with the
aim of improving the connectivity rate in several countries. Different from the first assignment, I
am able to have direct contact with customers in this role. A good combination of technical,
marketing as well as multi-cultural skills can be practiced in this assignment.
Third assignment – t.b.d. Erlangen, Germany
Follow up position – t.b.d.

Industry Sector / Infrastructure & Cities Sector– Mobility
Start date: 01. January 2010
End date: 31. December 2011
First assignment – Technical Sales & Business Development in Mobility Mainline –
Braunschweig, Germany
Shortly after getting the required technical background information about the products and
systems with the help of intensive trainings, I started to get my first responsibilities as the
Assistant Sales Manager. I supported the bidding phase of 3 different projects in 3 different
countries.
My additional tasks in the Business Development department helped me to gain the required
experience and a different point of view about the projects from a strategic perspective.
Second assignment – Project Management in Research & Development in Mobility Mainline
– New York, USA
My second assignment, which was a so called Abroad Assignment, did not only help me to
develop from a business perspective, but also to learn how to integrate quickly in a different
working and living environment. As an Assistant Project Manager, I played a direct role at the
building and development of a project team from the start and faced the challenge of critical tasks
in a limited time frame.
Third assignment – Technical Sales Management in Mobility Complete Transportation –
Berlin, Germany
Currently I am having my last station as a Technical Sales Manager. I am working on the
projects in Asian with a special focus on Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Different than
the previous stations, I am now in the Turnkey Projects business collecting experience in a
different business unit. My business trips to Asia help me to understand the customers and our
local colleagues in a better way.
Follow up position – t.b.d.
My follow up position is not decided yet. However, with the help of my personal mentor and
assignment managers, I will soon determine the best fitting position to my expectations and
career plans.

A new strategy for the process automation business needed to be implemented. Starting as the

lot of Siemens Managers and had full responsibility from the very beginning. Just great!

Fundamental experience!
