Primer
Tapestry of Grace
Whether or not you journey with us the
whole way, get off to a great start!
Tapestry Primer is written for parents of young children who are just
Primer Guidebook : A simplified
Curriculum
version of Tapestry’s Teacher’s Notes,
the Guidebook tutors parents in the story
of the human race. The Guidebook helps
those new to teaching history to survey its
highlights, while setting in firmly into the
context of Biblical truth.
Primer Handbook : Here are the core assignments and
content of the Primer program. The Handbook includes
specific, weekly assignments in recommended resources for the study of history, literature, geography, handson learning, and for memory work. It also directs the
new teacher where to read in her support materials.
starting out on their homeschool journey.
Using this program with their eldest
children in grades K5-1, both parents
and children establish good homeschooling habits while they grow
in confidence.
Primer Activity Book : For each 3-week mini-unit,
With all Tapestry products, the parent is
always in the driver’s seat! In the parents’
choice of one year or two, the Primer
takes you on a survey trip. Both parents
and students will encounter the stories of
human history and literature that the full Tapestry of Grace curriculm
explores in-depth.
Primer also introduces families to the joys of story-driven, integrated,
full-family learning, while building valuable memory skills and worldview
development, all using real books that retain interest and spark thinking.
You don’t have to go on to use
Tapestry of Grace in order to
benefit from using Tapestry
Primer! It’s designed to serve
all young teaching parents as
they set out on the exciting
adventure that we call homeschooling!

there is a coloring and activity book that students can
do while parents read aloud from history or literature
books, or as follow-up. Many original illustrations are
included that then re-appear on the cards of the Big
Story Game. Activity books offer fun and reinforcement
for each week’s lessons!
The Big Story Game : Four sets of cards (Who? What?
When? Where?) can be used in a variety of games for
one or more players, keeping learning fun and reinforcing Primer memory work. (Only the Who? deck is currently offered.)
Love the Journey : Used as either a stand-alone book
or as a companion to the Primer,
Marcia Somerville has written to
moms who are new to homeschooling. Her goal was to
provide help in developing an
individual educational philosophy,
but we’ve heard from veteran
homeschooling parents that it’s
given them new hope and fresh
energy as well! Marcia focuses on
essential principles and practices of
homeschooling that are needed by all!

Tapestry of Grace
The Tapestry of Grace curriculum is uniquely structured to serve both
students and teachers. On these two pages, we have outlined the key
concepts that are central to the curriculum. We’ve also defined terms
that will help you to better understand the descriptions of other products
presented in this catalog.
Classical Studies in
the Humanities
Tapestry provides a classical education in the Humanities whose purpose
is to hone the thinking and
reasoning skills of Christian
apologists. We offer:
A Four-Year Cycle
Tapestry uses the history of the world
to organize your study of the Humanities. Your family’s journey through history
spans four years, with all students study-
ing the same era of history, each at their
own levels.

Tapestry’s plan of study is broken up into
year-plans, units, and week-plans.
Curriculum
Year-Plans: The entire Tapestry program is comprised
of four year-plans. A year-plan guides the typical family
using Tapestry through a year’s worth of study at all
learning levels, but the pace is up to you!
Units: There are four units
within each year-plan,
each with its own theme
of study. A unit is roughly
equivalent to a quarter in
traditional American education.
Week-Plans: In most units,
nine week-plans comprise
each unit. There are thus
36 week-plans per year-plan.
Week-plans provide detailed
direction for the teacher and
all levels of students in the
core and elective subjects
provided by Tapestry.
Costs and Options
Students cycle through the four eras up
to three times, each time at a more advanced learning level.
There are four year-plans of Tapestry of
Grace (each one containing materials for
the four different learning levels).

Literature Studies for
Young Adults
Bridge the gap between
elementary and high school
Literature studies!
The Literature portion of Tapestry of Grace has long
begged for some middle ground. Our high school
(rhetoric) level Literature program is challenging,
and our moms have asked for more meat for their middle-school students
so that the step from middle school to high school is not so large.
Curriculum
NEW!
WHAT IS IT?
Literature Studies for Young Adults takes students through a series of stories, plays, and poems, arranged in historical order. Through this series,
students can encounter both

historical worldviews.
Discussion)
Our Literature program author, Christy Somerville, has gone back to the
drawing board to devise a new facet of Tapestry of Grace that serves a
variety of needs. This first year, we have produced only one Year-Plan. If
we receive plenty of positive feedback, we plan to produce volumes that
dovetail with Tapestry of Grace Year-Plans 2-4.

Here are our goals for Literature Studies for Young Adults:
{{ This program dovetails with Tapestry history plans, but it is also useful
as a stand-alone product that can be used with any history curriculum.
{{ This program can be used with students in grades 7-9.
{{ If used with younger students, discussions are optional.
{{ If used with high school students, we recommend combining Literature
studies with a writing program (and optionally, an English grammar program)
in order to earn a regular English credit.

age-appropriate historical
fiction, re-tellings of some
adult classics, and stories
for young people that are
classics in their own right.

content that will enable
them to analyze literature

This volume covers literature

Writing Aids provides a teacher’s manual that gives explanations of each
writing genre, along with guidance on how to teach it. Supplements
include student notes called Talking Points that the student can print and
place in his notebook for easy reference.
Have you ever looked all over the place to find just the right map? Save
time and frustration with Map Aids. Each week you can print an outline
map for each student’s Tapestry geography assignment along with the
custom-drawn answer key. These maps are keyed to specific age levels.
Besides Talking Points, supplements also include graphic organizers for the
student and helpful grading strategies for the teacher.
Your kids will enjoy labeling the outline maps, and you’ll appreciate how
easy they are to grade. Map Aids is our most popular supplement, with
good reason: it makes teaching geography so simple that it actually gets
done!
Writing Aids covers almost all genres—everything from the standard
sentence and paragraph construction to essay writing. Additionally, there
are fun projects like crafting newspaper articles, plays, and historical fiction. Writing Aids makes writing easier and more enjoyable for the whole
family!

Map Aids can be used with any Geography program, but shines brightest
when used with Tapestry of Grace.

You don’t have to test your child each week; many parents use our quizzes
as reinforcement workpages. But, in any week that you want to give your
