community that it's in the cities where
the battle to slow global warming will be
won."

Council on Climate Change and Mayor of
Mexico City

of gravity of the urban world moves
south, and even more decisively, east."

SeaGen: the underwater power plant
The SeaGen installation in the strait
of Strangford Lough is located in
Northern Ireland.
This prototype of a tidal turbine is
already demonstrating the
successful implementation of power
generation using rotors mounted in
water.
The facility equipped with two 600kW turbines supplies ecofriendly
power to over 1.500 households.

Smart Buildings: SmartSenior research project
In the SmartSenior research
project, in addition to Siemens,
there will be a total of 28 partner
companies and organizations from
research and industry.
The technical challenge was
primarily in the standardization and
integration of various systems. The
objective of such technologies is to
increase the quality of life for
seniors and help them keep their
independence. Other objectives
include lowering the costs of
hospital stays, thus reducing the
burden on health insurance
companies.

Heavy Goods Vehicles: e-Highway
In order to achieve the CO2
reduction targets in the
transportation sector the freight
traffic can do its part as well.
Siemens produced an holistic
concept for the electrification of
HGV traffic by means catenaries
and to test the technical feasibility
of the system on a specially built
test track in the north of Berlin,
Germany.

Smart Buildings in Smart Grids
Siemens supplies building
automation and security technology
for smart buildings, offering an
additional opportunity for
decentralized energy management.
The use of smart meters to
exchange data allows energy
providers to use the equipment,
such as cooling units, located in the
buildings that are connected to their
systems as decentralized energy
buffers.
