Surface Backbox
(for 8” speaker)
Description:
Lowell model CB84-SG (or ULCB84-SG which is part of
the ULD and ULS speaker series for fire protective signaling — UL 1480 5th edition) is a surface mount backbox
for ceiling or wall installation of an 8" speaker (or paging
horn model LUH-15T). It’s suitable for schools, offices,
medical facilities, restaurants, hotels and retail space.
The 11.5” square design with 4” depth is precision-formed
from 20-gauge steel and features welded seams. The
rear is punched with a universal mounting pattern for installing to a 4" square, 4" octagon, 2-gang, or 1-gang
E.O.Box (not included). The rear has a .375" hole with
grommet for wire access. Two sides include knockouts
for 500 Series wire mold. Front has formed flanges with
U-clips to mount Lowell grille models SG8 or IC-105A
(order separately). Includes 1.5” thick acoustic batting.

A&E Specifications:
The surface-mount backbox shall be Lowell Model
________. The backbox shall be fabricated of 20-gauge
steel and lined with 1.5" thick acoustic batting. The rear
of the backbox shall include provisions to mount to a 4"
square, 4" octagon, 2-gang E.O. box or 1-gang E.O. box
(not included). The backbox shall feature a 3/8" dia. hole
with grommet for wire access. Two sides shall have
knockouts for 500 Series wire mold. The backbox shall
also have four mounting holes and 8-32 U-clips at flanged
corners to accept grille model ________. The backbox
shall measure 11.5" square x 4" deep and have a white
powder epoxy finish.
