PX Plug Equalizing Assembly with Latching Prong
The PX plug with “latching prong” equalizing assembly enhances standard PX or PXN plug
operations by providing a positive prong retention mechanism. Safety is not compromised
during snubbing operations since the equalizing prong cannot release prematurely during the
installation of the completion.
Whether the plug is installed in the landing nipple at surface or via slickline, the equalizing
prong automatically becomes shear-pinned to the equalizing housing when the prong is
latched. Once latched, the prong will also prevent upward movement.
Features
• Prong Tip Latch – Automatically latches into place when properly installed. Latch shear pin
must be sheared to allow prong removal and subsequent plug equalization.
• Secondary Lock Mandrel Latch – Provides a back-up to the existing lock mandrel’s
primary hold-down mechanism.
• Reliability – Incorporates the proven track record of Halliburton’s PX plug system. The
prong housing utilizes a long bottom cap that allows room for debris. This longer cap can
alternatively accommodate three latches without pulling the lock.
• Compatibility – Uses the same standard running/pulling tools and procedures as
Halliburton’s standard PX/PXN plug systems.
• Metallurgy – All components are NACE MR-01-75 approved.
Benefits
• Safer snubbing operations due to positive prong latching.
• Shop-loaded plugs remain secure in packer tailpipe assemblies during transport to location
for better assurance of first time packer set, thereby reducing rig time.
Applications
HAL15352
• Live well (snubbing) completions and workovers.
• Any application where a conventional prong-style equalizing assembly is used.
