We build two kinds of ships
– advanced vessels and relationships
Exploration and production in deeper and
harsher waters, increasing health, safety and
environmental standards, and a continuous
drive for efficiency demand more advanced
vessels. Long investment horizons combined
with volatile offshore and financial markets
make shipbuilding, ownership and operations
ever more challenging. This increases the
importance of even closer cooperation and
relationships between shipowners and
shipbuilders.
When we design and build advanced offshore
and specialized vessels, we build for longterm results. We take pride in each ship
when it leaves the yard and throughout its
lifetime. Shipbuilding is about commitment
and customization. It’s about solving new
challenges through cooperation across
borders, professional disciplines and
technological possibilities. Our customers
shall experience the same dedication and
flexibility regardless of order size.
Shipowners and shipbuilders take equal pride
in their ships. They are the visible, proud
manifestations of the extensive competence
that exists in our partnership. With a delivery
programme of more than 20 advanced vessels
per year we are convinced – shipbuilding is all
about trust.

Your crew is our coach
Close cooperation with the shipowner, the
captain and the crew operating the vessel is
vital for everything from safety to increasing
the ship’s competitiveness. It is integral to how
we work, whether it takes place on the drawing
board, on board with customers or at our
shipyards in Norway, Romania, Vietnam and
Brazil.
Together with leading research communities,
we continuously test new ideas and technologies.
We always look for solutions that improve the
cost efficiency of the ship and its operations, and
the comfort and safety for the crew on board.
These projects have resulted in a number of
important innovations.
Our research and development is based on
close cooperation with our customers. Owner
and crew are always welcome to work with
us through the whole process. To optimize
operational efficiency, small details often
make a big difference, both during the building
process and when the ship is at sea. By sharing
knowledge on a daily basis, we develop ideas
together with the “men on deck”.

Meeting high demands
with new generations
VARD’s history goes back several generations
to a time when fishing was the main way of
living for people along the coast of Norway.
The demanding waters gave us an everlasting
respect and fascination for the sea, and for the
people who make their living from it. Norway’s
shipbuilding tradition is about more than just
challenging seas. It’s about generations of people
in small communities depending on each other.
It’s about trust.
Relationships are built over generations. Many
of us working at VARD today have experienced a
time when shipowners brought their families to
stay at the yard during the building process.
6 | VARD
Owners, crew and shipbuilders all contributed
with their expertise and stood together to adapt
to new markets requiring new types of vessels.
The pride each time a vessel leaves the quay is
equally strong today.
A firm belief in building teams, caring for
the environment and local communities and
working together to find new solutions is the
backbone of our company. It is our culture. Our
commitment to quality at all levels is as strong
now as it was in the days when deals were
sealed with only a handshake. Our worldwide
operations are founded on the same approach.
We take this culture with us when we enter
new markets. Today we are 10,000 employees
around the world and take pride in passing on
this way of working to future generations. Our
relationships with international shipowners are
also based on this same philosophy. Through
professionalism and internationalization we
have built a company based on the same
strong values.

PLATFORM SUPPLY VESSELS
We design and build a complete range of Platform Supply Vessels (PSV).
PSVs are commonly referred to as the “trucks of the sea”, as they are designed
to transport cargo to and from offshore oil rigs and platforms. PSVs are able to perform
a variety of tasks to support offshore operations; our PSVs are designed with focus
on cargo capacity and excellent manoeuvering capabilities combined with
low fuel consumption.

ANCHOR HANDLING TUG SUPPLY VESSELS
We design and build technologically advanced Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels (AHTS)
capable of operations in the harshest environments. AHTS vessels mainly perform anchor
handling duties and towage of offshore drilling units and floating production units.
As AHTS vessels generally have free deck area, and some of them have tanks below deck,
they can also carry cargo and bulk.

SeaQ Cabin is an innovative cabin system developed to fit today’s expectations from crews. The concept focuses on
creating silent cabins to ensure high quality living conditions on board. SeaQ cabin solutions also enable shipowners
to fit two one-person cabins in the space of a traditional two-person cabin. With this concept we have succeeded in
standardizing cabin area layout, providing predictable arrangement of accommodation decks and full utilization of
available space. In addition, this modular system enables an efficient building process. SeaQ Cabin is developed by
Vard Accommodation.
