The Physical Plant is responsible for the maintenance of university buildings and grounds, new construction and renovation, utilities, and mail service. We are comprised of over 80 talented professionals responsible for the coordination of construction and maintenance of the UM campus. We have an in-house team of carpenters, electricians, HVAC technicians, mechanics, painters, plumbers, groundskeepers, locksmiths, and custodial service staff who take great pride in providing on-time customer service of the utmost quality. We also partner with outside contractors for some technical and pest control services, as well as larger campus construction projects. Our Services What Can We Do For You? Identifying Your Request The Physical Plant is available to assist you with a number of services. Generally, most work will fall into one of two categories - chargeable requests, and general maintenance requests. Both of these are submitted by the same method. Examples of nonemergencies: 1. Go to: http://legacy.montevallo.edu/physicalplant/WorkRequest/ Lightbulb out 2. Click “CLICK HERE to SUBMIT A WORK REQUEST”. 3. Enter your email. If you are a first time user, it will then ask you for your contact info. 4. Follow the simple directions (your name, your building, and what the problem is IN DETAIL). Don’t worry too much about the craft (carpentry, HVAC, etc.) because the Work Order Center reviews & modifies appropriately. 5. The submittal password is “falcons”. (After you do it the first time, it will not need a password again) 6. Submit! The work order center will get it instantly and you will receive email notifications any time the work order is changed. 7. CHECK YOUR EMAIL – You should get an automated message confirming the work order was successfully submitted. If you don’t, the work order may have not been submitted correctly. 8. WATCH your email, as you will get updates on the work order, and you may be contacted with further questions via email. Event setup request Key replacement ***To UPDATE/EDIT/CANCEL an existing work order, do not submit another work order. Call 665-6130 or email umwoc@montevallo.edu. It is most helpful to have the work order ID# handy. (Example: 49788) How to Check the Status of an Existing Work Order 1. Go to: http://legacy.montevallo.edu/physicalplant/WorkRequest/ 2. Click “CLICK HERE to SUBMIT A WORK REQUEST”. 3. Enter your email. 4. Click the “My Requests” tab at the top of the page. You should see the status and any notes that the tech has entered. Please note that our maintenance shops close at 3:30. If you submit a work order after this time, and it’s not an emergency, it will not be addressed until the next business day. The Physical Plant front office closes at 5:00. Any calls made to 6130 after 5:00 will be automatically transferred to UM Police. If you have a maintenance emergency, the UM Police will contact the appropriate maintenance employee. Charges Event Setup Please submit your event setup request as early as possible – at least 3 days in advance! We cannot guarantee that the personnel or items will be available if you make a late request. When submitting an event setup work request, it’s helpful if you include the name and date of the event. Keep these things in mind when submitting a work request: 1. Don’t forget your building and room number. 2. Use detail in your problem description. Your request is reviewed by the CSR, so any incorrect classifications are fixed before routing. Be specific with quantities of chairs, tables, etc. desired because these are claimed by reservation. ***Chairs do not automatically come with tables. If you want tables AND chairs, you must specify. Charges are as follows: Labor Charge: Minimum $15.00 and $15.00 per additional employee hour Moving of Picnic Tables: $23.50 per hour, per person (typically requires two workers and additional equipment) 20' X 20' Tent Rental: $130.00 each (includes set-up and takedown) If your event is on the Central Calendar, HVAC will be scheduled appropriately. If not, DON’T FORGET to submit a work order for the HVAC to be on during your event times. This request must be made as early as possible before the event. Surplus, Moving, and Other Charges Physical Plant Labor: Hanging pictures, moving keyboard trays, moving phone lines, adding a wall jack for a telephone, renovations of spaces, providing power for an event (extension cords, portable power and breaker panels), assembling furniture, maintenance of lab or exercise equipment, vandalism repairs in residence halls and painting other than regular maintenance are all subject to service charges.
