If nothing is done, per person daily traffic delay in Reno will
rise from 4 minutes to almost 30 minutes in the next ten years
Today, traffic congestion is estimated to cost each American
traveler more than $710 a year and continues to grow.
Traffic delays in the Truckee Meadows now waste almost 4
million gallons of fuel a year costing taxpayers $13 million and
could increase more than five fold by 2018.
THE BLUE RIBBON COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS:
RTC-5 adjusts fuel tax rates just enough each year to regain
the purchasing power lost to construction inflation. The estimated
cost to the average driver in the first year is 3.6 cents per day
or $13.15 per year. This would recover an estimated $2.6 billion
over the next 30 years and every penny would be spent on streets
and highways in Washoe County, creating high paying jobs and
stimulating our economy. Improved streets and highways will
reduce congestion, improve air quality, increase safety, and save
