LESSON PLAN
SEBJECT: READING
GRADE : 7
DURATION: 4 SESSIONS
DATE: JANUARY 28 – FEBRUARY 1
TOPIC: DRAWING CONCLUSION
AIM: For students to use graphics and information to draw conclusions when reading.
DAY 1
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1) View a picture to draw at least 3 conclusions by giving clues.
2) Draw conclusions after listening to a song
3) Read a story to draw a picture of the main character and give clues to his identity from
the passage.
4) Complete a drawing conclusion worksheet
MOTIVATION
The teacher will play a song for the students to listen to.
MINI LESSON
The teacher will think aloud to draw conclusions about the song, singer and the title. She will
think aloud questions and the answers to demonstrate the skill. The responses will be written on
the board. She will explain to the students that drawing conclusions is similar to making an
inference. It is the process of coming to a decision based on clues given as well as from previous
knowledge on the topic to figure out what the author means. The teacher will read a short
passage and think aloud to demonstrate the skill to the students.
GROUP/PEER WORK
Each group will be given a picture to draw 3 conclusions and give a clue from the picture for
each. ( picture of an elephant carrying a baby with its trunk crossing a flooded river).
WHOLE CLASS SHARE
Each group will present their picture and their meanings. The teacher and students will discuss
the responses to ensure that everyone understands the concept/skill.
INDEPENDENT WORK
1) Draw conclusions after listening to a song
2) Read a story to draw a picture of the main character and give clues to his identity from
the passage.
EVALUATION 1
Complete a drawing conclusion worksheet
AFTER CLASS ACTIVITY
Watch school challenge quiz and draw one conclusion about the host. Give reasons to support
your conclusion
EVALUATION 2
DAY 2
Objective: by the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1) The students will be asked to draw conclusions from a passage title and picture.
2) The teacher and students will read the passage then discuss.
3) The students will be asked to reread the passage then answer at least 6 questions.
MOTIVATION
The students will do a snowball review of the previous lesson.
GROUP/ PEER WORK
The students will be asked to draw conclusions from a passage title and picture while discussing
them.
WHOLE CLASS SHARE
The teacher and students will discuss the responses to ensure that everyone understands the skill.
INDEPENDENT WORK
The teacher and students will read the passage then discuss the different events. The students will
be asked to draw conclusions about the teacher and Shane.
EVALUATION 1
The students will be asked to reread the passage then answer at least 6 questions.
EVALUATION 2
DAY 3
Aim: For students to use textual details and their prior knowledge to comprehend text.
Objectives: by the end of the lesson, students should be able to:-
1) View a picture story to give it a title after drawing conclusions.
2) Complete a comic based on the pictures
3) Complete a recycling worksheet
MOTIVATION
The teacher and students will do a ball review of how to draw conclusions.
MINI LESSON
The teacher will place a series of pictures on the board. She will think aloud to fill in the bubbles.
She will also think aloud to give the pictures a title. She will explain to students that they can
observe the pictures to get clues as well as their own personal experiences. The teacher will also
remind students that they can draw conclusions about characters and setting in a story.
GROUP/PEER WORK
Each student will be given a copy of a cartoon narrative to observe. They should decide on what
the story is about. They will be required to work with a partner to complete the story bubbles and
give it a title.
WHOLE CLASS SHARE
The different groups will be required t\o share their stories with the class.
INDEPENDENT WORK
The students will be asked to complete a cartoon narrative and draw conclusions about the
characters, the setting and the problem.
EVALUATION 1
The students will be given a passage on recycling to read then answer 6 comprehension
questions.
AFTER CLASS ACTIVITY
Write a paragraph on what kind of person you think you will become based on your present
actions.

READ ALOUD AND RESPOND

STEPS:1) The teacher will read to students for 15 minutes after discussing the chapter title.
2) The teacher and students will discuss what was read look at specific words.
3) The students will be required to write a paragraph based on a given prompt.
