Abstract: In this paper we consider a vector channel model for MIMO radar systems
to describe a more general multiple-waveform multiple target radar scenario, and
present a new approach to optimal design of radar waveforms for detection of a
single extended target based on this model. We show that a minimum mean square
error (MMSE) receiver implies maximum signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) in the single
target scenario, and discuss application of an SNR maximization procedure to
optimizing the transmitted radar signal. Finally, we present preliminary results,
confirming that this procedure indeed yields the optimal result in this case.
