Budget/Facilities/Admin Services: Steve Kawa Establishing hiring committees for: Dean of Instruction, Administrative Secretary, and Counselor. Working toward being officially designated as an “education center” by CPEC, which will allow the college to receive up to $1 million in additional funds. The center must generate 500 or more FTES. Instructor has been hired for the culinary arts program, Inmate Education. The last meeting was very successful, with a presentation by Zuk Financial group, and an update by Lieutenant Trahan on the upcoming safety drill, May 10. The Hawks approved $1200-1500 as a donation to the classified scholarship awards. Advertising has begun for summer (credit start date is June 10). Possible advertising during the Wango Tango concert in the new Wango Village, college area. Outreach may participate. “The Sentry” carried a positive story on the Women’s Soccer Ring Ceremony. Collaborating on “Year of the Library” activities with the SCC Library, Chapman University, and the city of Orange. A formal program is scheduled for September 24. No report. a. b. Budget worksheets are due back from the deans the end of April. In 2007-2008 everything will be on Datatel. Facilities: The fountain area will be under construction from April 23 to May 4. Plans are being negotiated for the Demonstration Garden between Metropolitan Water District and Coast Keepers. The gymnasium and performing arts center were submitted to the state for funding consideration. The gym did not qualify for state funding. President: Juan Vázquez Currently setting up codes for Datatel and proofing the catalog. Juan asked that AnnMarie be included in developing the highlighted programs. Library book sale is April 17-18. Dean position has been re-flown, with a closing date of April 25. No report. a. Bill Jeffery attended the Student Success Committee meeting to provide an overview of success with faculty on helping to keep the cost of textbooks down. b. The “early alert” system has been assessed and will be revised for more efficient service to students. The next meeting will include a demonstration of SARS alert, a scheduling program currently used by counselors. c. Interviews are occurring this week for the LD Specialist. d. Senior Day is April 18. e. The Transfer Center hosted a pre-med workshop for students. f. Dora Contreras-Bright, in the Career Center, held a workshop at OEC on career resources. Recommended to invite Bill Jeffery to the joint department chair meetings to continue discussions on textbook costs. No report. a. b. Sergio Rodriguez has electronically distributed the first edition of the Datatel newsletter. Chancellor’s Ball is set for Friday, October 12, at the Disneyland Hotel. Recommended Sergio be invited to Senate and department chair meetings for Datatel updates.
