Learning Objectives
At the end of this unit, the student should be able to:
1. Provide an overview of photometry and spectrophotometry, including a description of
the basic components of the system.
2. Explain Beer’s Law (Beer-Lambert Law) and its significance.
3. Define percent transmittance and absorbance.
4. Recognize various types of monochromators.
5. Recognize the appropriate light source depending on required wavelength
measurement range.
6. Recall the requirements for the use of cuvets in the spectrophotometer.
7. Define bandpass.
8. Cite various types of readout devices.
9. List methods or procedures used in quality assurance of spectrophotomers.
10. List potential sources of error of spectrophotometers.
