Pangaea Name: ____________________ Date: __________ Period:_____ About 225 million years ago there was only one giant continent. It was called PANGAEA (pan-Gee-uh). This name means “all land”. The weather or climate was generally warm and dry, and the land was covered by many deserts. During the next 100 million years, the land began to break up. The sections called plates slowly drifted apart. Te climate changed and new types of plant developed. Great seas separated the continents and animals were no longer able to roam throughout much of the land and mingle with one another. On a map or globe, look at the continents as they are today. It is easy to see how some of the continents could fit together like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Down 1. A hot dry place. 2. At one time these were all together. 3.
