LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE
GRADE 10
FIRST QUARTER
Content Standard: The Learners demonstrate an understanding of the relationship
among the locations of volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and mountain ranges.
Performance Standard: The Learners shall be able to:
1. Demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes, tsunamis,
and
volcanic eruptions
2. Suggest ways by which he/she can contribute to government efforts in reducing
damage due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions
I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Reconstruct and describe Pangaea.
b. Enumerate the evidences of the Continental Drift Theory
c. Predict the future location of the continents as it continuously move
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Continental Drift Theory
B. References: Science 10 Learners Material pages 53-61
C. Materials: world map, globe, PowerPoint presentation, visual aid, cut-outs of the
seven continents
III. Procedure
A. Review
Asking questions about the previous lesson
B. Motivation
Have you ever had a chance to go to a very tall mountain here in Sabangan,
stand on its peak and look at the beauty that it offers? Do you think it looks exactly the
same as before?
C. ACTIVITY
Activity 1:
Group the students into two (2). One group will assemble the torn papers with pictures
while the other is with words in it. Analysis will follow through question and answer.
-Discussion on Wegener’s evidences
 The Continental Jigsaw puzzle
-matching the edges of the continents
 Fossils
Activity 2:
Do Activity 2: Drifted Continent in page 59 of the Learner’s Material.
D. Analysis
Answer guide questions (recitation)
E. Abstraction
Explanation and clarification will be done by the teacher.
F. Application
If the continents will continue to move, where will be the Philippines’ location 100
million years from now?
G. Assessment
Direction: Answer the questions below (5 points each).
1. Do you believe on Alfred Wegener’s theory on how the world looked like million years
ago? Why or why not?
2. What proofs support the theory of Alfred Wegener?
3. Draw and label the Pangaea.
