have lower than average birth weight
► Fetal alcohol syndrome = condition that
develops in a baby born of a mother that drinks
alcohol during pregnancy
► Smoking will harm an unborn baby
► Even taking aspirin during
pregnancy puts the unborn
baby at risk

► Financial = the younger a girl is when she has a
baby, the more likely she is to live in poverty
► Physical = toxemia (pregnancy induced high
blood pressure) can develop during pregnancy
