This course will introduce students to the major sources of Muslim belief, including the Qur’an, the
Hadith, and other texts. We will begin the course with a brief introduction to the life of Muhammad, the
Prophet of Islam, and the history of the religion. We will also look at the Qur’an and Hadith in light of
some contemporary artistic and cultural production and phenomena in the Modern Middle East. -GER
