THE UNIFIED STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO MEASURE OF THE SENATE The Elections Code Edits Amendment To update the Elections Code in the USGA Articles of Governance ______ - ______ - ______ to be filed by the Secretary of the Senate Signed by the President of the Unified Student Government Association Chiefly Sponsored By: Danish Murtaza, Chair of the Constitutional Review Board Co-Sponsored By: The Constitutional Review Board The Elections Code Edits Amendment To update the Elections Code in the USGA Articles of Governance Whereas, The USGA Articles of Governance should be as accurate as possible in its provisions, and Whereas, The USGA Articles of Governance should reflect the current reality of the Unified Student Government Association, hereafter referred to as the USGA, and University function, and Whereas, Certain areas of the Elections Code need to be updated in order to reflect this reality, and Whereas, In reality, public funding for all candidates takes the form of printing funds, and Whereas, As it’s currently written, the provision regarding public funding gives the perception that the USGA will literally provide monies to a candidate to spend freely, and Whereas, Two new buildings, Cuneo Hall and the Institute for Environmental Sustainability, hereafter referred to as the IES, have come online, and Whereas, These two buildings currently do not have any campaign-related provisions in the Elections Code, and Therefore, Be it resolved, that the USGA makes the following change to USGA Articles of Governance Article 22 §4 (A) (i): Candidates for office shall receive printing funds for their campaign in the amount of one quarter of the spending cap for the position contingent upon approval of the Elections Board. ,and Therefore, Be it further resolved, that the USGA makes the following additions under USGA Articles of Governance Article 22 §6 (A) (i): xiv. Cuneo Hall. Campaigning and posting in Cuneo Hall shall be prohibited. xv. Institute of Environmental Sustainability (IES). Campaigning and posting in the IES shall be prohibited.
