Elections Board Tabling Act:
To increase voter participation for USGA’s Fall and Spring elections
Whereas,
It is the duty of the Unified Student Government Association, hereafter referred to
as the USGA, to represent students, and
Whereas,
The student body of Loyola University Chicago is responsible for electing
representatives to represent them, and
Whereas,
The percentage of student participation in USGA elections is as follows:
Fall 2009 – 33%
Spring 2010 – 26%
Fall 2010 – 28%
Spring 2012 – 30%
Spring 2013 – 24.2%
and
Whereas,
It can be deduced from these numbers that USGA’s voter participation is low, and
Therefore,
Be it resolved that USGA recognizes that its voter participation is low, and
Therefore,
Be it further resolved that USGA recognizes that it should act to increase our
voter participation, and
Therefore,
Be it finally resolved that the following additions be made to the USGA Code
under Section 8 Election Procedures:
Under subsection (C) Fall Election, an additional paragraph shall be added
to read:
(iv) This election board must table at least once on the two election
days when voting is live.
Under subsection (D) Spring Election, an additional paragraph shall be
added to read:
(v) This election board must table at least once on the two election days when voting is live.
