ABSTRACT A screenhouse experiment using potted plants was carried out to compare the pathogenic response of three varieties out cowpea to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) .The viral infected plant was obtained from the virological unit of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Ibadan. The results of the experiment showed that all the varieties were susceptible to cucumber mosaic virus infection .Subsequent growth and yield attributes in the inoculated plants were lower than those recorded for the control. Most of the infected plants despite flowering at the right time produced little pod as a result of sever abortion.
