This is your chance to take on an excellent and comprehensive leadership role in event
organizing! UC Idol committee members have found their positions challenging and
rewarding. They are able to develop a wide array of skills in a single involvement.
Event Director
Description: The Event Director gains experience in the complexities of event
organization through various streams: admin, recruitment, tech, and publicity. He/she is
responsible for acquiring, developing, and enhancing the knowledge, skills, and
competencies involved with managing these areas. The Event Director manages the
logistics of the UC Idol show, manages finances, recruits volunteers, oversees every
aspect of the event organization, and delegates responsibilities and duties to the
organizing committee. Also, the Event Director leads meetings, organizes the auditions
and the dry run, and makes final decisions. Event Directors will receive training and
support throughout the organizational journey, by Advisors (i.e. previous Event
Directors).
Details: There will be a maximum of 2 Event Directors.
Time commitment: 20 hours/month, ~160 hours over 8 month period (February –
September)
*Current Event Directors may stay as Event Directors for the subsequent year if desired.
However, it is encouraged that current Event Directors shift into an Advisor role,
allowing new volunteers to experience Event Director role. Advisors are Event Directors
with previous experience, who offer training, provide feedback, offer support, and
provide guidance, as needed. Advisors will also seek out new ways to improve the show.
Previous Event Directors will inform current Advisors whether they are interested in
joining the Advisory group.*

Question 2: Email communication
Because UC Idol involves the cooperation of multiple individuals assisting with various
streams (i.e. admin, recruitment, tech publicity), we have found the use of Google
Documents and email communication to be the most efficient way of communication
and delivering status updates. With years of UC Idol organizational experience, we have
noticed that scheduling large team meetings are extremely difficult. Therefore, email
communication meets our goal of efficiency. Are you comfortable with large amounts of
email and responding to emails efficiently?

*The selection process will be based on your written application, CV/resume, and past
performance in leadership experiences. We will like to meet with all interested
individuals at an interview to discuss the possible ways to get involved with UC Idol,
whether it be in the role of Management, Team Leadership, or Leadership levels.
Successful candidates will show that they are reliable, are dependable, and enjoy taking
initiative. Members of the UC Idol Organizing committee will also show that they are
efficient at responding to emails and meeting deadlines. They should be able to work well
in a team, contribute to meetings, participate, and have fun with the work involved. Once
on the committee, a meeting and training will be provided, as well as continued support
along the organizational journey from Advisors.*
