Job Title (code): IT Specialist II (9805) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT Specialist II classification install and support computing or basic data communications/ telecommunications equipment and software and perform diagnostics of problems with that hardware and software. Persons in ITS II positions work under the supervision of a technical manager and are responsible for Essential Functions Function 1: Diagnose and perform intermediate to advanced repair of personal computing hardware, software, network issues and ensure customer requests are handled in a professional and timely manner. 25 % Time Function 2: Diagnose and perform intermediate to advanced repairs to standard hardware, software, solve network issues and ensure customer requests are handled in a professional and timely manner. 25 % Time Function 3: Consult and assist clients with use of standard hardware, software personal computing needs in the university environment and ensure their requests are handled in a professional and timely manner. 20 % Time Function 4: Serve as liaison between OIT, customers, and other IT professionals on campus. 10 % Time Function 5: Create and update online documentation for standards, services, and procedures. 15 % Time Function 6: Research and recommend new hardware to the university community. 5 % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other related functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Associate?s Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install and configure desktop computer hardware and software. Ability to install and configure basic data communications and or telecommunications hardware with some supervision with little supervision. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent practical experience. Practical work experience with Microsoft Windows XP OS and Applications, and Mac OS X and Applications. Practical work experience in repairing PCs, Macs, Printers, and network connection issues. Excellent customer service and phone skills. Experience with web development tools used to create, maintain, and update websites. A+, Dell, Apple, HP, and Microsoft certifications a plus.
