Job Title (code): IT Manager III (9814) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT Manager III classification manage other technical staff that perform programming tasks or install, maintain, and trouble-shoot desktop, server, applications, or communications/voice communications equipment and software. They work independently in the performance of their duties, which typically involve Essential Functions Function 1: Consult, diagnose, perform and supervise the advanced repair of personal computing hardware, software, network issues and ensure customer requests are handled in a professional and timely manner. 10 % Time Function 2: Consult and assist clients with use of standard hardware, software personal computing needs in the university environment and ensure their requests are handled in a professional and timely manner. 20 % Time Function 3: Administrative functions including but not limited to: Hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising of IT staff including Managers, Specialists, and student workers. Ensure that customer requests are being handled in a professional, and timely manner. 15 % Time Function 4: Coordinate, assist, and assign resources for special projects for management. 15 % Time Function 5: Research and recommend new hardware to the university community. 15 % Time Function 6: Serve as liaison between OIT, customer and other IT professionals on campus. 15 % Time Function 7: Create and update online documentation for standards, services, and procedures. 10 % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other related functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree in related field and eight years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Four years of supervisory experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Considerable knowledge of principles of computing and/or communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environments. bility to supervise and train subordinates. Work experience in repairing PCs, Macs, Printers, and network connection issues. Excellent customer service, communication and phone skills. Perform administrative functions including but not limited to: Hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising of IT staff including Managers, Specialists, and students. Experience managing inventory including: tracking inventory records and loaner equipment. Experience with web development tools used to create, maintain, and update websites.
