COLLIN COLLEGE DIVISION OF FINE ARTS COURSE SYLLABUS Course Information Course Number: DANC 1101 Course Title: Dance Improvisation Course Description: Exploration of movement and visual design leading to choreographic studies. Focus on developing creative potential, personal movement style and expressiveness. Emphasis on experiencing new kinds of movement, making connections among varied movement ideas, seeking new relationships and learning to visualize ideas in dance. Course Credit Hours: Lab Hours: 1 3 Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following: 1. Explore, view and discuss dance as a living embodiment of ourselves and our culture 2. Develop creativity and imagination through personal problem-solving activities 3. Develop each individual’s style of movement and enhance personal appreciation of dance as an art form 4. Develop communication skills by drawing relationships between movement ideas and create new relationships and themes 5. Develop critical thinking by making justified judgments about dance utilizing a critical process that involves description, analysis, interpretation and evaluation of movement forms 6. Develop choreographic skills through improvisation activities 7. Deepen the dancer’s enjoyment of movement and provide ways to access that channel 8.
