COLLIN COLLEGE COURSE SYLLABUS Course Information Course Number: DANC 2301 Course Title: Topics in Dance Technique Course Description: A rotating topics course with instruction, participation and performance in various dance styles. The course will explore specific technique, vocabulary, creative processes, dynamics, and musicality of determined dance genre and style. Includes experiencing a variety of movement styles and material each semester. Lab required. Course Credit Hours: Lecture Hours: Lab Hours: 3 2 2 Prerequisite: Audition or consent of Instructor Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following: 1. To develop a working knowledge of specific dance technique and vocabulary. 2. To increase body awareness and body alignment while developing strength, coordination and flexibility. 3. Develop communication skills by writing and speaking articulately about the movement style and technical process. 4. To develop the ability to learn and skillfully perform selected movement combinations. 5. To understand the basic history of dance genre. 6. To demonstrate basic rhythmic skills and weight changes in a variety of meters and mixed meters, qualities and characteristics. 7. Develop critical thinking of basic concepts of movement related to body action, dynamic variation, movement in and through space, expression and motivation/intention. 8. To demonstrate a willingness to take risks and attempt the unfamiliar in technique class. 9. To deepen the dancer's enjoyment of movement and to provide ways to access that channel. 10.
