Here & Now: Eastern Art Alumni Exhibition Electronic Submission Period: June 1- June 30, 2016 Exhibition dates: September 1 – October 13, 2016 Reception: Thursday, September 8, 5-7 p.m SCOPE and ELIGIBILITY Here & Now celebrates Eastern’s new Fine Arts Instructional Center with a welcoming opportunity for our Art Alumni. The panel of jurors will review all entries via digital submissions, select work for installation in the exhibition, and award prizes. Artists and designers who are Alumni of Eastern Connecticut State University’s Visual Art Program are eligible to submit entries for consideration. Original works in all fine arts media executed during the past five years will be considered. Commercial design work, animation, and motion graphics are welcome and encouraged. ENTRIES Digital Images We will accept submissions electronically (i.e. as digital images) over a 4 week period from June 1 through June 30, 2016. Only digital images of original work will be considered by the jurors. The digital images should be jpegs at 300 dpi or higher in resolution and are to be submitted electronically via DropBox to GalleryIntern@easternct.edu . All digital image entries must be accompanied by the attached Entry Form. Entries must include an artist’s or designer’s statement and C.V. Digital File Instructions 1. Start with a resolution of 300 dpi. Resize image to 900 pixels on the vertical side for portrait format or 900 pixels wide for a horizontal image. Save as high quality jpg. 2. Save image file as: Last name of artist_First initial_title.jpg. Abbreviate title if lengthy & remove all spaces. (e.g. Smith_J_EarlyAutumn.jpg. Animation, video and motion graphics must be mp4 and should not exceed 10 minutes run time. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES You may submit up to 3 entries. No single work over 132” (H) X 84” (W) may be considered. The submission of multipart pieces (triptychs and diptychs, sculpture, or multi-media) is also permissible — inclusion or exclusion based on the feasibility of installation will be at the discretion of the jurors. No accepted work may be removed during the exhibition. SELECTION FOR EXHIBITION Artists will be notified by July 25, 2016. Those selected for inclusion will complete a Layout/Installation form and a Video/Photo release form. Work can be dropped off or shipped between August 8 and 12. Pick up October 15, 17 and 18, 2016. SALES The Art Gallery will not deduct a commission for any sale of work in the exhibition. His areas of specialization include prints and drawings, European art of the seventeenth through the nineteen centuries, and American art from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Art History for the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Connecticut. He teaches courses in the history of the print, seventeenth century Baroque art, and eighteenth century French and English art. Shana Dumont Garr is the Director of the Kingston Gallery in Boston, MA. The Kingston Gallery is an artist-run alternative space that was founded in 1982. She is also a freelance arts writer with publications that include Big Red & Shiny (Boston, MA), New American Paintings Blog, and the International Review of African American Art. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Art History at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA. Previously she was the Director of Programs & Exhibitions at ARTSPACE in Raleigh, NC. Gregory P. Garvey is Professor of Game Design and Development and the Chairperson of the Visual & Performing Arts Department at Quinnipiac University. He has BS and MFA degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been teaching and developing curriculum and programs at Quinnipiac for seventeen years.
