 Capacity—7 + 2 chunks of information
Chunking—increasing the amount of
information that can be held in short-term
memory by grouping related items
together into a single unit, or “chunk”
From Short-Term Memory, information that
is not rehearsed or encoded is forgotten
after about 20 seconds
With elaborative rehearsal, STM info is
transferred to
Long-Term Memory
 Duration—just over 20 seconds to a
lifetime
 Capacity—limitless
