1. Introduction
 Diffuser plates allow the water to be evenly distributed
throughout the filter so the water does not funnel and
the biolayer is not disturbed
 Lids keep contaminants out of the filter and protect
the water quality
2. Diffuser plates
 Using corrugated plastic or rust-proof metal measure
diffuser plate to sit on the filter ledge
 Puncture evenly spaced holes (approx. 100) in the
diffuser plate
 Add a handle from locally available material
 Materials can be substituted for what is locally
available
