JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Supervisor
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT:
In Home Safety Services (IHSS)
REPORTS TO: President
PAY STATUS: Salary
JOB SUMMARY:
This position directs and monitors all aspects of service provided by the IHSS program.
Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that services are being administered in accordance with
contracts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

















Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and discipline program staff.
Carry out objectives set by management.
Monitor and be accountable for program budgets.
Set and monitor employee caseloads.
Provide all “Essential Functions” of IHSS Community Worker.
Attend supervisors meetings and convey pertinent information to staff.
Prepare required reports and all other program documentation accurately and on time
Review Ewisacwis case notes, safety assessments and safety plans.
Act as a resource for workers in emergency and crisis situations.
Advise coordinator of crisis situations.
Conduct weekly staffing.
Ensure quality assurance through file reviews.
Ensure that company policies are followed at all times by employees.
Serve on committees and provide trainings as assigned.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and obey all traffic laws. Must have reliable
transportation on a daily basis, a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
Safely transport clients as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:

Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or
other related field.
Required DCFS Child Welfare Preservice Modules and Safety Foundation.
Must be CPR certified.
Position must keep current on information pertaining to client/family needs through
seminars, trainings, media, text and research.
Experience

Three years of experience working with youth and families involved in the child welfare
system.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 Ability to read, speak and write clearly in English.
 Must possess a high degree of knowledge regarding company policy and procedures and
company programs.
 Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in establishing work schedule.
 Must be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Department of Human
Services.
 Knowledge of available placement resources for youth.
 Must establish and maintain productive and professional relationships with clients,
colleagues, correctional and other institutions, the school district, and other community
agencies.
 Must maintain client confidentiality.
 Ability to prioritize and make appropriate decisions.
 Ability to work independently and effectively manage time.
 Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
 Ability to provide culturally, ethnically and gender sensitive services.
 Ability to follow directions and implement recommendations.
 Possess creativity in identifying problems and solutions.
 Ability to self motivate and remain on task.
 Knowledge and compliance with policies and procedures as detailed in the personnel policy
and procedure manual.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Work Environment:
This position operates both in a professional office environment as well as within the community
(i.e. client homes, correctional and group home facilities, and schools). This position routinely
uses standard office equipment such as computers with various software programs, phones,
photocopiers, shredders, filing cabinets and fax machines. Exposure to environmental conditions
such as air conditioning, dust, odors, and outdoor weather conditions occur.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to talk and hear; regularly
required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach within arm’s length; lift and move
objects weighing up to 40 pounds; possess visual acuity; and drive throughout the day.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day. However, on occasion, travel around the state
may be required.
Client Caseload and Hours of Work:
This position may carry a caseload, based on program needs. The hours of work for this
position are varied, but typically are Monday through Friday during the business hours of 8:00
am and 5:00 pm. However, this position is expected to work occasional evening and weekend
hours outside of this timeframe based on the needs of the program. Position must be available
via cell phone 24/7, unless other coverage arrangements have been made.
