5/26/06 Original notes from Pat-Kathy conversation on 5/26/06. Supplemented at group meeting on 5/30/06 What are the activities of the new proposal? Goals of new work Feedback on framework of MKT for secondary Continued revision of framework (???) Dissemination of framework Generation of uses of the framework Small meeting (5-10 experts) Key people who would represent audiences of the large conference? Or People who have been working on the question (since literature is sparse, we need to get the people together) Reactions to work Revisions to framework Suggestions for working conference Maybe synthesize what work has been done and also critique our work Commission (pre-conference) papers to react to our work from different perspectives – how does our work play in various arenas? Large Working Conference (40-60 invited mathematicians/mathematics educators) – play on theme of theory-practice connection – look at publications from NRC/MSEB conferences on teacher knowledge Introduction of Framework Creating/using situations Worksessions Engage them in some activity related to the framework to get them to know about the framework. Possibly react to papers related to the framework. How would you use the framework (with situations) in your work? Mathematics classes Mathematics classes for secondary teachers Inservice programs Teacher preparation programs Research Creation of plans to use the framework Mini travel grant program to support the dissemination of uses of framework (e.g. travel to meetings for presentations, monograph of activities) Questions: Who is invited to small and big meeting? How is the framework created? What can we say about it now? 5/26/06 The new proposal includes substantial dissemination but how does it show synthesis of previous work and move the agenda of professional development? Issues: How to present an incomplete framework How to conduct a conference intended for dissemination without making it a critiquing session. Do we need work ahead of time to introduce people to the framework? Should the purpose of the conference be to get a critique?
