Kindergarten Newsletter October 19, 2015 Mrs. Dowdell and Mrs. Copani Ed Smith Vision Statement : To be the most improved school in the district where every child learns and grows. Classroom News We had another busy week in kindergarten! We are reading and talking about rules, sharing and getting along in our classroom community. We are learning about the Three Rs which are being Responsible, Respectful and Ready to learn each day we come to school. We have started learning sounds for letters m,a,t,d. We are sending these letters home so that you can practice with your child. Please show your child these letters and ask them what sound the letter makes. We are also learning to write those letters as well as hear beginning and ending sounds in words. In math we are working on counting things, recognizing numbers and writing numbers to at least 10. We are also working on adding numbers together through oral math stories. Last week we sent home some number flash cards for your child to practice number recognition and number fluency. Even if he or she knows the numbers they should practice putting them in order and find a missing number in a series of 4 numbers to help build fluency (ex. 3,___5,6). Thank you for practicing these skills at home, it essential in supporting your child in making great progress in kindergarten! Our class will have Picture Day on Friday, October 20th first thing in the morning. If you are interested in getting pictures, please send in the envelope that was sent home last week. Parent – teacher conferences are coming up in November. If you haven’t signed up for one yet, please see Mrs. Dowdell or Mrs. Copani to sign up for a time.
