Monday, February 28, 2005 To : Tax Reform Panel From Carl Kruhm Subject: Basic comment As a retired public school teacher and Sunday School teacher I am concerned that basic morality is readily apparent in our tax code. If paying for what you get and getting what you pay for are two sides of the same moral coin, why should not the rich pay more taxes than the poor? The rich get more from our common infrastructure and the common good will of all US worker/contributers (not to mention those dead or wounded in war) than the poor receive, just by the fact that the rich are able to work the system more successfully (or their forebears did). Progressive is moral; dominating the weak is not.
