I am appalled that loving committed couples are denied
equal rights under our tax laws. Examples include the
denial of Social Security benefits for surviving gay
and lesbian parents who have adopted children, despite contributing to
the program just as heterosexual couples do. Other examples include
being unable to use Flexible Spending Plans, retirement savings plans
nad estate taxation. Among the most grievous is the exclusion of gay
and lesbian partners from coverage under health insurance benefits.
Please work to see that all committed couples are
treated equally under the laws of our land.
