writing, the techniques of research, and all grammatical structures that aid
in effective communication.
COURSE EXPECTATIONS
This culminating English language arts course of high school will
refine the skills students have been exposed to since beginning their
studies. The rigor of study for this course is designed to launch students
into our collective society as college and career ready citizens. Students
will synthesize the scope of their reading comprehension and written
communication into a final body of work that will afford them a level of
academic confidence for whatever life course they choose to pursue.
The textbook for this course is the one provided through the Denton ISD:
Allen, Janet, et. al. Holt McDougal Literature. British Literature. Illinois: Holt McDougal,
2010. Print.
The text is available in both print and electronic formats, but the
electronic format is recommended. Each student will be given a username
and password for this website: <my.hrw.com> If a student prefers the
print format, an administrator will be happy to accommodate them.
Students will be loaned a school copy of any novel(s) used in this
class, . If a personal copy is desired, students may purchase one, new or
used. Over the course of this school year, students will be required to
locate and use additional research resources, to include Internet and print
sources. A research report is required.

be successful. It will take everyone who walks into this classroom
remembering our personal and school pride. Above all, be kind, be
mature, and be committed to excellence. All students need to bring a onesubject spiral notebook.
A2 - Please bring tissues. A4 & B4 - Please bring college-ruled notebook
paper.
A3 & B3 - Please bring pens.

Students will be expected to schedule reassessment during teacher tutorial times of
major summative assignments within the district allowed time for reassessment.
Reassessment is allowed for missing major assessments; it is also allowed for major

that reassessment.
ENCOURAGEMENT FROM YOUR INSTRUCTOR
I’m looking forward to this course of study. It is a new one for me, so we will learn
together. As always, the keys for success in just about anything are: show up, speak
up, and stay up. In other words, come to class, ask questions if you need clarification,
and don’t get behind, especially if you have been absent for more than one period. This
is YOUR senior year!!! Yay!!! Let’s have a great year!
❤☺ Go Broncos!!!
