Course Description:
United States History from 1877 covers the period of time following
Reconstruction to the present with emphasis on the following essential
elements:

students will understand the emergence of the United States as a
world power;

locate and identify geographically the states, major cities, rivers,
and mountain ranges as well as the major physical regions of the
United States;

understand the major factors contributing to the social and
cultural development of the Untied Stated, i.e., impact of the Civil
War, Reconstruction, immigration, social reform movement, and
leaders.

Students, will understand the political development of the United
States by analyzing leaders, and by analyzing the development of
the three branches of government
Student Management Plan:
The policies established in the Guyer High School Student Handbook will be
supported in this class by following four simple rules:

Be Respectful- towards teachers, students, etc.

Be Honest- Only turn in your original work.
3.
Take Care of Personal Responsibilities
4.
Manage Technology appropriately- use of technology will often be
encouraged in this course. However, the expectation is that unless
otherwise instructed, students should stay off of their phones.

NO EXCUSES
Teaching Procedures:
Class Discussion, Independent Study, Guided Practice, Multi-Media
Presentations, Group Study, Thinking Maps, History Alive, Other
Make-up Exam and Work and Late Work Policy:
D.I.S.D. policy as stated in the Student Handbook will be supported. You are
expected to review and understand the policy as stated in the Student
Handbook.
Notebook & Supplies:

Students will need a journal, folder or binder, notebook paper, pens, a
red pen or pencil, #2 pencils with erasers, a highlighter

Please bring a Kleenex box if you are able!
Course Outline:

First Semester: Industry and Immigration, Challenges in the late 1800s,
America Comes of Age, World War I and the 1920s, The Great Depression
and the New Deal

Second Semester: World War II, Postwar America, Civil Rights and Reform
in the 1960s, The Vietnam War Era, An Era of Change, America in the
1980s and 1990s, America in the Twenty-First Century
Consequences:

First offense – Verbal Warning

Second Offense – Teacher detention with parent contact.

Third Offense – Referral to house principal.
*Disruption of the classroom and learning environment will not be tolerated.
Course Grades:
60% = Major Summative Assessment
40% = Minor Summative Assessment
Learning = Formative Assessment
Reading Textbook, assigned homework and completion of class work at home is
expected to maintain the level of knowledge to be successful in United States
History.
Reassessment opportunities may be earned by meeting criteria included but limited to the following:

Teachers may require that all late work tied to that assessment must be completed and demonstrate mastery in order to earn reassessment

Teacher may require tutorials be attended in order to earn reassessment

Teacher may require review materials be completed in order to earn reassessment

Teachers will set a deadline for reassessments to be completed in a timely manner. As a general guideline the reassessment must be completed within
one week of the primary assessment.

Teachers will provide at least one opportunity for reassessment
