Name: ___________________________ Date: ____________________ Cell Story Rubric Directions: Today in class we compared a cell to a factory. We compared the Cell Membrane to the Shipping and Receiving Office because they both control what goes in and out. We compared the Nucleus to the Main Office of the factory because it is the control center for both. We compared the Ribosomes to the Employees because Ribosomes build proteins while factory workers build other products. We compared the Mitochondria to the Power Plant of the factory because they both supply energy. We compared the Cytoplasm to the factory floor because that is where all the work is done. And finally, we compared the Vacuole to the Factory Warehouse because that’s where materials are stored. Now it is your turn. I want you to compare the parts of a cell to a DIFFERENT everyday object. Some examples could be: a car, an office building, a school, a town, or a computer. You may use the examples I just listed or you may come up with an idea of your own. Your story must include the following Cell Organelles: Cell Membrane, Nucleus, Ribosomes, Mitochondria, Cytoplasm and Vacuole. This story will be graded as a 20 point quiz. Consider this a gift if you are struggling throughout the first quarter. The Rubric of how this story will be graded is on the back of this paper. Criterion (4) (3) (2) (1) Inclusion of Cell Organelles Story references to Cell Membrane, Nucleus, Ribosomes, Mitochondria, Cytoplasm, and Vacuole Story is missing one of the aforementioned Cell Organelles Story is missing two of the aforementioned Cell Organelles Story is missing three or more of the aforementioned Cell Organelles Correctness of Information All comparisons of everyday object match the function of the Cell Organelle One of the comparisons of the everyday object are incorrectly paired with the function of a Cell Organelle Two of the comparisons of the everyday object are incorrectly paired with the function of a Cell Organelle Three or more of the comparisons of the everyday object are incorrectly paired with the function of a Cell Organelle Creativity Student thought outside the box and came up with an analogy not listed on this worksheet or talked about in class Student used one of the examples listed above, but presented it in an interesting way Student used one of the examples listed above, but did not present it in an interesting way Student compared the cell to a Factory Neatness, Format, Grammar Student has proper heading, uses 12point Times New Roman Font, double spaced, with proper grammar and spelling.
