Our goal is to give students the tools to live a successful and
productive life. We want them ready to contribute to our
community and have the academic and social skills to support
that desire.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thanks to all who attended Curriculum Night on August 28th.
Turnout was much lower than expected and teachers had a great
deal prepared to share about the year. To be honest, it was a
little disappointing. Please review the progress reports coming
out about your student’s progress and plan to attend conferences
in October. We hope to see you then.
Art Masterpiece & Parent Volunteers
Edison is a great place to be each day. We are looking for parent
volunteers that can help in their child’s classroom or with site
projects. If you are looking for ways to support your child’s class,
please get in touch with the teacher through voicemail or email. It
will take time to build trust between parent and teacher, so be
patient in them getting to know and rely on you to help.
7:30-11:30 a.m.
This is a forum open to the community
for sharing issues and needs of working
to improve the educational
opportunities of our Latino community.
If you are interested in attending please
visit this site for more details…

PTO helps to sponsor our Art Masterpiece program. This allows
parents to teach short lessons about artists and a piece of work to
share with students. This is a great way to interact with our
students and have fun teaching at the same time. Training is
provided and our coordinators are looking for help at this time of
year.

Each Friday, Edison students are encouraged to wear their school colors and school shirts to show
their school spirit. PTO sells shirts in red and blue to help families show their school support.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Literacy – Model reading to and with your children
Many parents believe their child's education begins the first day of kindergarten. However
we now know, children who are "exposed to a variety of literacy experiences at home are
more likely to enter school ready to learn, read, and write".
Suggestions that model good literacy habits:
Talk and sing with your child about the people and places you visit each day.

your voice creates emotional connections and helps the brain grow and develop.
Reduce television watching and video game playing.
Play with and explore literacy materials such as crayons, paper, glue, rulers, and clay.
Be a reading role model. Read the newspaper, a magazine, or book. It is important that
your child is aware that you also read.
Jobs at Home-One of the best ways to build responsibility and work ethic in your student is
to give them chores that they can complete with minimal parent support. In Arizona
Parenting magazine, they created a quick list for families to see what tasks are age
appropriate jobs that can help at home.
