However we now know, children who are "exposed to a variety of literacy experiences at home are more likely to enter school ready to learn, read, and write". Suggestions that model good literacy habits: Talk and sing with your child about the people and places you visit each day. September Create 22,a2008 grocery list together. As you shop, show your child the item on the list and cross it off. Issue 2 loud to your child. Your child may not understand the words you say, but hearing Read out your voice creates emotional connections and helps the brain grow and develop. Reduce television watching and video game playing. Play with and explore literacy materials such as crayons, paper, glue, rulers, and clay. Be a reading role model. Read the newspaper, a magazine, or book. It is important that your child is aware that you also read.
