CLASS TITLE: TESTING SERVICES SPECIALIST I

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Dean of Admissions, Assessment & Student Aid, plan, schedule, and administer instructional exams, external exams, and standardized group academic achievement tests at locations on and off campus; maintain appropriate security of test materials and results; explain and interpret test procedures and appropriate policies and regulations.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

1. Plan, schedule, administer and score a variety of group instructional, academic achievement and assessment tests including adaptive tests for disabled students in accordance with college, state and testing agency requirements. (E)

2. Administer or oversee administration of tests at a variety of locations on and off campus; oversee students during test administration; transport test materials and assure that facilities are appropriate and adequate; ensure test materials are ordered, received and returned to faculty or the proper agencies in compliance with security procedures. (E)

Provide work direction to temporary staff.

Apply, interpret, explain and enforce testing and matriculation policies, procedures, related information and requirements to students and the public; monitor, update, and distribute matriculation records. (E)

5. Distribute test records to students; issue routine printouts; provide explanatory information where needed; maintain confidentiality of student records. (E)

Assist in research collecting data for statistical reports.

Provide support for the Testing Program; participate in planning and monitoring manual and automated procedures and recommend changes for the Testing Office and Academic

Proctoring Center for greater efficiency. (E)

8. Assist in the ordering, inventory control and security of testing supplies.

9. Prepare, distribute and maintain a variety of reports involving testing.

10. Serve as GED Examiner as assigned and assure proper security of test materials. (E)

11. Evaluate a variety of test records to determine completion of matriculation requirements.

12. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of test and matriculation materials and/or records.

13. Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Test administration and scoring.

Automated recordkeeping techniques.

Procedures followed in the administration, scoring, recording and reporting of standardized test results and other academic tests.

College course prerequisites and matriculation policies.

Math and statistical computations.

Specific regulations set forth by testing agencies.

Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

Oral and written communication skills.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Laws, rules, regulations involved in assigned testing activities.

Principles and practices of training and providing work direction.

ABILITY TO:

Schedule and administer various academic tests.

Coordinate, manage and use automated systems for maintaining and reporting of test results for various tests.

Assist in testing-related research and evaluation.

Maintain current knowledge of testing requirements and regulations issued by the Testing

Department, State, or other agency.

Read, understand, interpret and apply technical information.

Operate a computer, printer, copier, scanner, shredder and calculator.

Use department test computer programs, MicroSoft Office products, and other office productivity applications. Use Adobe Acrobat; develop and maintain web pages.

Generate and maintain computer records and prepare technical reports.

Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to the college and test administration.

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Meet schedules and timelines.

Work independently with little direction.

Train and provide work direction to others.

Lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Equivalent to an Associate in Arts degree and two years of closely related work experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver license.

TESTING SERVICES SPECIALIST I

WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

CONTACTS:

Coworkers, other department personnel, faculty, students, proctors, campus aides, student workers and testing staff at other colleges and universities.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Primarily sedentary with intermittent to frequent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional to frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and/or carrying of objects weighing 30 pounds or less; ability to work at a computer station for short to extended periods of time, involving light to moderate repetitive use of hands, wrists, forearms and shoulders; ability to travel and/or drive to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving appropriate interactions and communications in person, by telephone, e-mail or correspondence with students, staff, faculty and others from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to work effectively under pressure on a variety of tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primarily busy, indoor office environment; subject to frequent contact and interruptions by individuals in person and by telephone; intermittent exposure to angry and/or verbally aggressive individuals; may be required to work at any district location or authorized facility during day and evening hours and Saturdays as required by the testing schedule.
