CLASS TITLE:
STUDENT SERVICES COORDINATOR - ACTIVITIES
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Dean, Counseling and Special Services, direct Student Activities
department; provide leadership development training, activity programming; student government
advising, and student organization coordination; Adult High School Diploma Program advising;
grievance processing; coordinate commencement; and conduct new student orientation sessions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1.
Direct the District Student Activities department.
2.
Develop and monitor departmental budget; manage student group budgets; ensure
expenditures fall within state education code requirements; authorize expenditures.
3.
Co-select, train, and supervise secretarial staff and co-select, train, and supervise Student
Services Coordinator.
4.
Advise, train, counsel, and supervise a diverse group of student leaders; authorize and
supervise student travel.
5.
Authorize contracts with performers, travel groups and other vendors
6.
Advise and supervise the development, review, and enforcement of Associated Students
documents, including constitution election code, and policies and procedures.

Develop and conduct studies and analyses to identify need for new programs and services
and evaluate the effectiveness of current programs.

Develop and provide in-service programs and activities to promote learning, awareness,
communication and personal and professional growth.

Within guidelines, provide advice regarding educational objectives, course scheduling
options, unit load, grade point average and satisfactory progress for both adult high school
and college students.
10.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate personal and leadership development workshops and
retreats for student leaders and members of recognized student organizations.
11.
Plan and produce annual commencement exercises; chair District standing committee for
commencement.
12.
Develop and review student organization advisor and student handbooks.
13.
Coordinate college-wide student identification card processing and production.
14.
Receive initial complaints from grievance-ready students; advise as to best strategies for

resolution with faculty, staff or other students.
15.
Advise, supervise, and guide faculty and staff advisors of recognized student
organizations.
16.
Refer students to community organizations and social service agencies for assistance as
appropriate.
17.
Prepare statistical records and reports related to assigned student services areas; gather
and analyze program data.
18.
Attend meetings, workshops and conferences; represent the District and promote college
enrollment.
19.
Select, train and supervise student staff and student workers.
20.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Motivational strategies, interpersonal conflict intervention and resolution and goal setting.
Laws, policies, and procedures relating to student travel, supervision and funding authorization.
Needs and interests of culturally diverse groups of student leaders and organizations.
Interviewing techniques.
Methods and practices of recordkeeping and report preparation.
Principles of training and providing work direction to others.
Oral and written communication skills.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.
District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Budget preparation and control.
ABILITY TO:
Plan, organize and implement programs and activities in one or more Student Services areas.
Coordinate, develop and implement services and activities to retain and assist students.
Analyze, interpret, apply and explain policies and procedures pertaining to college programs and
services.
Provide accurate information to students regarding college programs and services.
Develop and monitor budget.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Work independently with little direction.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Train and provide work direction to others.

Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and one year closely related and one year
directly related work experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver license.
WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Secretary I, student workers.

Students, counselors, teachers, coworkers, other department personnel, community members.

Normal office environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment; subject to conducting work at a variety of locations on both campuses and in
the community during evening and weekend hours.
