Focusing on semester targets the dean and leadership team discussed enrollment goals. Conversations
will be continued on course issues related to meeting annual enrollment goals.
Jacksonville Urban Teacher Residency Program (LD)
DCPS selected UNF as their university partner to work with them with this program. Dr. Daniel shared
some productive highlights of the recent two day meeting at the school board.
 A recent organizational meeting was held including consultants from Urban Teacher Residency
United, DCPS, the COEHS, and the Jacksonville Public Education Fund (QEA donor representative).
 Substantial discussion regarding roles and responsibilities. UNF will be responsible for developing
curriculum and developing, along with DCPS, a sequence of events for the residents in the
program.
 UNF will work jointly with the district to develop a set of screening requirements.
 Focus on STEM areas, however there were good discussions about expanding in other areas as the
program advances over a multi-year format.
 5 year commitment of the donor group for this program; however, donors will review funding and
partner agreements each year.
 First-round budget and formal agreement are being negotiated.
 As a way of advancing UNF full participation and commitment – Dr. Wanda LaStrapes will be taking
a major role in leadership as coordinator for UNF.
 The district and JPEF showed incredible leadership and collaboration while working through the nuts
and bolts of this initiative.
 There will be a nationwide recruitment for a diverse group of candidates. Apprentice for one-year
with a stipend while in residency; funds will also help defray tuition and fees, and books. Anticipate
starting in June 2014.
 UNF will be working within the structure of the Curriculum and Instruction Master’s Program. Other
program areas will be brought into this initiative as appropriate.
FDOE Review (CT)
Dr. Torres sent out an overall completed state report to the departments and all the reports have been
posted to the accreditation website on Blackboard. In addition, Dr. Daniel and Dr. Torres attended an all
day workshop in Orlando; Eileen McDaniel called together Dr. Daniel and Dr. Torres to represent the pilot
institution that was reviewed. Everybody that participated in the review (on site and off site) spent a full
day discussing the process, what was learned, and the future of the review process. The goals are to
advise the process of how institutions should be ready for their review and how to conduct the review.
Guidelines need to be provided to the teams to refine the templates to be used during off-site/on site
review. All review information from COEHS will help FDOE draft “rules” that will guide the review process.
Dr. Torres discussed program rating approvals and will be reading all the reports and reviewing them for
consistencies in how they were scored. Conversations will continue on continuous improvement.
Discussions in Faculty Assembly during Spring 2014 Semester (CC)
Dr. Carter discussed ideas for continuous improvement and pedagogy during faculty assembly meetings.
The first discussion will be held at the January assembly meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
