OPS RES LIFE WORK GROUP Meeting Minutes November 17, 2015 Present: Absent: I. Linda Koenig, Bill Kerry, Lance Clark, Mayra Colon, Darnell Thompson, Julia Bjornland, Molly Robbins, Hakeem Hopper-Collins, and Griffin Schultz Travis Bertolino, Maggie Wetter, and Samantha Guter Announcements Minutes Review from Last Week Approved by work group members Diversity Website Meeting minutes have not yet been posted on website o All meeting minutes have been sent and will continue to be sent in the meantime II. Discussion Updates from Last Meeting RA Training o Molly and Linda had a phone conference along with Megan Williams and Trainers for Change consultant, Laura Blanca. o Limitations of training possibilities discussed Size of rooms available Power differentials o Possible formats of training One big training together at first Moving out to Res Life professional staff with OPS and SASP with RAs and then coming back together at the end to have a big discussion together Series of program trainings throughout the year o Work group to further discuss what steps to take to ensure people feel comfortable attending and participating Orientation o Griffin and Bill to attend meeting this afternoon, will update the work group next week Reached out to Erica and she is to send materials from orientation and Fall Welcome for work group to review. Draft Statement o Meeting held this morning o Mayra developed FAQ formatted document to address student concerns and questions. Use of force section to be further developed and explained o OPS developing a Facebook page to post updates and answer simple general questions in a way that is accessible for students. Students able to submit questions anonymously Make sure this page is easily shared to members of campus community Emergency Response Guide to be published with easier access o Statement to be prepared for why officers wear uniforms at trainings To be shared at every training. OPS Identification Book o Crystal Young has approved use of ID office pictures for SASP members o Mayra reached out to president of OPS union who sent a letter to the international union for informational feedback to see whether or not use of officer’s pictures would have to come to a vote and be agreed upon, and also if officers could opt out of it. o Mayra will inform the work group when she hears back from the union president. Work group agrees that if officers opt out of picture use of their names will still be in the book. Retreat o Maggie and Darnell to meet this week to further develop ideas. Community Review Board o To be published in January o Work group to prioritize review Meeting Schedule Work group to meet 2 more times after break (no meeting to be held during final’s week) Open Agenda Items Designated space for ALANA students to meet and organize being worked on by SGA. o Work group to support this initiative Possible invitation of Provost and President to a work group meeting o Bill and Linda to present work group topics and concerns to Terri and Bonnie to have them bring to the Provost and the President Work group to receive reports from them on actual action steps being taken and how they are implementing initiatives (not just what is being planned).
