Training begins tonight
Meeting Minutes Review
 Minutes have been reviewed by work group and have been submitted to Molly Israel
 Will be posted on the diversity website either today or tomorrow
CRB Document Review
 Work group members to review document this week and provide feedback

Discussion
OPS Yearbook
 Myra, Linda, and Sam will be getting together on 3/8/16 outside of the group
o Will further discuss programming and interactive session options to get to know
officers and receive education on when campus members might have interact with
officers
Training
 Molly and Linda to meet on Thursday to begin conversations of what the training will look like
to better prepare work to be done at the retreat
OSEMA
 Darnell has been in touch with Jacqueline to bring up ideas about including social justice and
diversity education within a student’s education at IC
o Many projects that the work group has been discussing are already in the works but
are not public knowledge yet
 Darnell to ask Jacqueline to communicate progress made to work group
OPS Weapons and Uniforms Draft Statement
 Mayra will update document to include response resistance information and will email the
updated document to all work group members
Retreat
 As of now, according to the doodle poll , the most availability to attend the retreat is on 3/4/16
from 4:00-8:00pm
o This may change due to last few members needing to fill out the poll
 Darnell will create a google doc to develop agenda items for retreat as well as to begin
brainstorming ideas for training
o Agenda as of now includes team building exercises, fall training development, and
action step development
 Location to be determined but will be held somewhere on campus
Orientation
 Maggie, Hakeem, and Bill have a meeting with Erica Shockley next Thursday
o Focusing on education of campus community including topics such as:
 Microaggressions
 Invalidation of an individual’s experience
o Looking for opportunities to create situations to test comprehension of information as
well as create different ways to present information (i.e. roleplaying)
 Work group to provide further ideas to Bill at next week’s meeting
Environmental Support for Creating a Safer Space for ALANA Students
 One goal of the retreat will be to focus on how to have an impact on this during training and
orientation as well
 Work group to continue to develop ideas for creating a safer campus
o Current steps that have been taken
 Development of OPS Weapons and Uniforms Draft Statement
 Development of first year education: SLIs, seminars, and orientation
 Development of better training for OPS and Res Life staff on issues of
diversity and difference
 Development of Community Review Board
o New ideas generated
 OPS open house
 OPS officers to reach out to campus community to show those
interested in what the facility looks like and how it operates
o Idea: Informal BBQ held outside of OPS while open house is
going on
 Work group to further develop steps needed to be taken to ensure
success of the event
 OPS officers attending various group meetings on campus when invited by
organization
 OPS to reach out and communicate willingness of OPS officers to
attend student organization meetings as well as student and faculty
councils
o Goal would be to meet students where they are and have
discussions
 RAs can help OPS identify groups to reach out to if they are
comfortable doing so
 Darnell to reach out to coordinator of RA appreciation event to see if they can
incorporate OPS into the event tradition to continue improving the
relationship between the staff.
