Being African in America Aminata Cairo and Weedie Braimah Anthropology aims to uncover the human story through techniques that allow the researcher to personally connect with people and their stories. Weedie Braimah, the son of a Ghanaian master musician came to the United States at a young age. Searching for his African and musical heritage, Weedie executed his own anthropological research since age nine, connecting with African master musicians. He used his gained knowledge to develop into a master musician himself, and to promote his art in the Saint Louis area and throughout the United States. In his music and teachings he stresses the African heritage, while honoring the American context.
