Change and Crisis, 1954-1965
Rich Binning
Graduate history student (to be awarded the M.A. in history December
18, 2010), Rich Binning, will present findings from his M.A. thesis,
"Change and Crisis, 1954-1965," and argue that Mississippi Methodist
minister the Reverend Edwin King of Jackson manipulated the segregated
Mississippi Methodist church to such an extent that turmoil within its
white adherents led to crisis after crisis until change finally took
place, and the Methodist church became
desegregated.
