Evidence-based Practice with Children and Adolescents Course Description This seminar will provide an overview of evidencebased practices in integrated behavioral health settings with children and youth that experience cooccurring health and behavioral health issues including mental illnesses, substance use disorders, trauma and behavioral disorders. This seminar uses a developmental framework within an ecological perspective as the foundation for the exploration of assessment, prevention and intervention skills and models that address complex problems of at-risk children, youth, and their families. Learning Objectives Identify strategies to actively engage children, youth and families in the therapeutic process. Engage in developmentally and culturally appropriate assessment strategies. Explore evidence-based practice process and identify evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies that are compatible with child/youth and family/caretaker goals, needs, circumstances, culture and values. Presented by Dr. Shannon Cooper- Sadlo Associate Clinical Professor, currently teaches BSSW level practice courses and MSW courses in the clinical concentration at Saint Louis University. Shannon is a graduate of the Saint Louis University BSSW program, the University of Denver MSW program, and obtained her PhD in Family Therapy from Saint Louis University. She has been in clinical practice with various populations and specializes in areas of family therapy, substance use, co-occurring disorders, and trauma. In these positions, she has had significant experience working with individuals and families in hospitals and community settings.
