2014 Preliminary Land Use/Transportation Issue Identification
Background: Each winter, the CCI is asked to review and provide comment on a draft
annual work plan for Washington County’s Department of Land Use & Transportation
(LUT) Long Range Planning section (see Attachment A for the 2014 work program).
This year, the CCI has an opportunity to provide information to LUT about current issues
and trends affecting land use and transportation prior to work plan development, and
compile a “2014 Emerging Issues” list, which



Does not set the work plan or promise that these items will be included, but
proactively highlights issues that may be of interest in more than one CPO.
Provides LUT with important information on these issues from the CPO and/or
CCI perspectives.
Adds an informative input step to the annual CCI feedback process on the
proposed work program.
At September’s meeting, the CCI will compile a preliminary list of current County land
use and transportation issues or trends to bring to the Department of Land Use &
Transportation’s attention prior to the draft 2015 Work Plan. This list will be completed
at the following meetings, allowing additional time for submittals and discussion.

For background, please familiarize yourself with Attachment A: 2014 Work Plan,
including Tiers 1-3. There may be ongoing issues that are captured in Tier 2 or 3 but
have not been addressed yet; you may choose to include some of these as well.
As you consider new issues, some questions to think about include the following: Are
there issues or topics that have arisen more than once? Is it a local issue or does it
extend to other CPOs? Is it specific to urban unincorporated, incorporated, or rural
areas? How would you define success in resolving this issue?
