The College of Communication and Information (CCI) COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION TENTH ANNIVERSARY INFORMATION is one of the only colleges within the United States that has such a diverse combination of communication, information and visual disciplines within its schools. With its four schools — Communications Studies (COMM),Visual Communication Design (VCD), Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) and Library and Information Science (LIS), CCI offers courses and opportunities, providing students a broad educational perspective and intensive training, preparing them to enter the job market with the skills needed to succeed. New Highlights for Fall 2013: • Flexible. Globally-oriented. Award-winning. VCD listened to its students and has reorganized the internationally-recognized program to allow for more flexibility in the junior and senior years so students can study abroad and participate in experiential-learning opportunities without adding time to the now four-year curriculum. • Intellectual. Internationally-recognized. Distinguished. COMM has added two new concentrations to its already comprehensive program — global communication and health communication. Global communication provides students with exposure to business processes, information management, media systems and telecommunications structure, intercultural and organizational communication practices. The health communication major promotes skills in health care communication and training, social support, health literacy, media literacy and the design and development of health messages, programs, and campaigns. COMM also offers minors in most of its concentrations. • Multi-media focused. Innovative and entrepreneurial. Hands-on, practical learning. JMC students learn communication, analytical and problem-solving skills in a state-of-the-art facility. These skills are needed not only in media professions but in any career field. • Visit campus. CCI schools offer Shadow Days for prospective students. Students can sign up via CCI’s website, http://www.kent.edu/cci. • The CCI Commons is an on-campus residential college open to all majors within CCI. This unique learning community is academically-based and designed to provide students with the tools and support necessary to become successful in their college and professional careers. Olson Hall is centrally located on campus near the Kent Student Center. Minutes from the respective buildings for each of CCI’s four schools, students who live there are in the heart of Kent State.
