Guidelines for Science Research Journal/Logbook
1. Label your journal with the following information on the outside cover
 Name
 Title of Your Project
 Grade
 Year
2. Add a page number to each and every page you write on (bottom right hand corner)
3. All Proposals should appear first including your final proposal
4. A complete and detailed list of all material should appear next including any MSDS for any
and all chemicals you have used in your experiment
5. The next section should be all your notes and observations from your experiment.
a. Remember you must document everything you do in this journal and date each
entry.
b. How you set up your experiment (detailed steps)
c. Procedures: All procedures involving the experiment. Every time you worked on
your experiment you should have written about it and dated the entry. These
procedures must be detailed.
d. All data that was collected must be written for each trial, if multiple trials were done
e. Any /All Math involved in making solutions, calculating velocity etc…
f. Description of mistakes/errors, things that went wrong, or things that were changed
g. This includes any notes and or thoughts you have had on your experiment
Make sure all of the above information is included. You will be graded on this information. It
should appear in the order mentioned above
If you kept up with your journal the way you should have during your experiment, there should
be nothing you have to “add” to it.
You may have extra stuff in your journal. Do not get rid of any information!!! I will just be
looking for the information above for right now.
I included the rubric as well so you know exactly how you will be graded.
