PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE September 24, 2014 – Hill Hall 314 Meeting Minutes Members in Attendance Brenda Goodwin, David Hough, Diana Piccolo, and Rebecca Woodard I. II. Call to Order A monthly meeting of the MSU PEC Executive Committee convened at 3:30 pm. Chair Diana Piccolo presiding. Approval of Minutes Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the September 3, 2014 meeting. Motion carried. III. Discussion Items 1. Approve the removal of the MEP2 (posttest) – James Sottile Dr. Sottile was unable to attend. 2. MABEP Update – David Hough On November 18 when MABEP meets again they will be taking a position on MoPTA. The way it stands now it cannot work. DESE is taking two steps back since statewide too many districts do not want their students video tapped. TASK 4 (video) is totally up in the air. MABEP has been asked to make a recommendation on what to do to the State Board of Education. Dr. Hough’s suggestion is to eliminate student teaching supervisors, and work with school districts to have building principals and classroom teachers do the evaluations for the student teaching experience. If we hire them as adjuncts it would save us $300,000. His suggestion also included using ½ to pay the schools to do the work and create a partnership between the public schools and MSU to train them. 3. Certification Matrices & Review of Secondary Core – Rebecca Woodard Oct 1 at 3:30 will be the first meeting. Main thing will be looking at the Secondary Core. Will be getting updated matrices. Everything should be in place by Fall 2017, so we should work to have everything in place Fall 2016. 4. By-laws Concerning 1 or 2 voting Members from each Department (handout provided) – Rebecca Woodard, Diana Piccolo, and Brenda Goodwin i. They were approved by PEC May 13. They need to be sent to Steve McIntyre and cc Cynthia MacGregor. The Rules Committee wants more information on why the PEC wants to be a Council. 5. AAT Redesign Planning Workgroup Update from Meeting on Sept 19 (handout provided) – Diana Piccolo i. The Competencies and other areas of the document were discussed. ii. Items to be added to the PEC Agenda i. COB Eliminating Business Education. ii. Suggestions of duties and charges for the Admissions, Procedures and Retention Committee. Cheryl Wrinkle from Physics and Astronomy is the new Chair of the committee. It was suggested to have this committee review the checkpoints and MEGA requirements, and that the GPAs align with the correct catalog year. Adjournment – 4:45 pm PEC Executive Committee Page 2
