Minutes of Missouri State University Panhellenic November 11, 2015 The General Council meeting was called to order by President Libby Shannon at 3:30 pm at the Union Club. The roll was called by Vice President of Administration, Bailey West. President, Libby Shannon (Elizabeth16@live.missouristate.edu ) a. Congratulations to the women slated for the 2015 PHA Exec board! If you would like to run from the floor, I need to know by Friday, November 13 at 5 p.m. b. Elections Process for next week: We will be voting for each position individually. Votes will be collected as a paper ballot. If a candidate is running from the floor, she will be allowed a one-minute speech followed by one minute of questioning. The slated candidate will then follow in the same manner. Once both candidates have spoken and answered questions, they will be dismissed from the room for a pro-con-pro discussion. A simple majority (5/8) is needed to win the election. c. In light of the events taking place on Mizzou's campus: please remember that as a community we work to build strong women of character that lead with integrity. Spotlight: Daisy Lampkin Was the first NAACP field secretary, the first female national board member, was credited for recruiting Thurgood Marshall to head the Legal Defense Committee. She was active in women's suffrage and anti- lynching movements, taking a role in the Lucy Stone League, National Association for Color Women, National Council of Negro Women, she was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Governance Statement Spotlight- 5.14 No member shall permit, tolerate, encourage, or participate in drinking games at a chapter event or on chapter premises. XII. Associate Chief Justice, Lauren Vincent (Lauren26@live.missouristate.edu ) a. Ethics Policy Spotlight: Unity: We will promote a pro fraternal community value. Diminish all stereotypes and disrespect towards each other. b. Panhellenic Standards Star! Know someone that represents the sorority community at MSU really well? Nominate her to be Panhellenic Standards Star! Complete a nomination form( Available on the FSL Website) for a sister or a friend, and submit it to lauren26@live.missouristate.edu by Monday, November 30th at 11:59 PM for your nomination to be put into the Panhellenic Standards Star drawing for the month of November! The winner will be announced at General Council on Wednesday, December 2nd (the last PHA meeting of the semester) and she will receive a $15.00 giftcard to Starbucks for being a STAR as well as an Instagram Spotlight! This weekend is the last tailgate. Please act appropriately and have fun! VII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS M. Gaglio asks to entertain a motion to re-open discussion on the Greek Week Schedule of Events. Alpha Chi Omega motions. Delta Zeta seconds. Discussion Points: The dimensions for Greek Jam will change, but the specifics are not nailed down yet. The packet should come out in January. M. All in favor: Unanimous Consent All opposed: X Abstention: X NEW BUSINESS It seems that girls wish General Council was still at 4:00. When it was full, there was a handful with conflicts. After moving it up, much less could go. The delegates wish that however it is scheduled that all or more of the council can attend. ANNOUNCEMENTS AXΩ: We had a successful mom's weekend this past weekend and enjoyed a night with our sisters last night at our retreat! We are also preparing to transition our new exec board and are excited to see all that they will accomplish. AΔΠ: We had our Delta Dance and our elections this past weekend. We are installing our new Executive Board this upcoming Sunday and are excited to see everything they will accomplish! AΣA: ASA initiated 90 members Friday night. We also had Mom's Weekend which was a blast. Elections were held on Sunday and we are very excited to see where our new officer board will take us. This week we have a Leadership Consultant from Nationals stay with us. It has been fun getting to know her and learning different leadership techniques. ΔZ: We have lamp-lighting this week and will be initiating our new members this Sunday. We also have dad's day this weekend at bass pro. Sorority Sisterhood Ugly Sweater party at Delta Zeta next Wednesday, November 18th from 8:00-11:00. Everyone is welcome! ΓΦB: Today is our Founder's Day! We were founded in 1874 at Syracuse University by Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, and Mary A. Bingham. The term "sorority" was coined for us, and we were one of the founders of the National Panhellenic Conference. Fun fact: our original dues were $0.75 a year, initiation was $2.50, and a tax of $0.25 was levied on members who were absent without excuse (with illness being the only good excuse). ΣK: Hope you're having a great start to your week! Sigma Kappa's report for the week: We had a great time at our Founder's Day Celebration on Sunday. This week is Sigma Kappa's Week of Giving, so we are doing various service projects throughout the week. We have formal on Saturday and elections this Sunday! ΣΣΣ: This past weekend was our Best Friend's Weekend. It was a lot of fun getting to see them and show them around Missouri State. ΞOI: We are hosting an educational event with Sigma Chi this Thursday at 6:15 p.m. in Carrington lecture hall about how to effectively use and build credit in college. The sorority and fraternity with the highest percentage in attendance will have $100 donated to their philanthropy so please come! We are also looking forward to our initiation this Sunday!
